SERENITY + BEER

3.9/5
stars nathan fillion, adam baldwin, gina torres

after incessant nagging from my brother, i went to see joss whedon's SERENITY, a film based off the cult television series Firefly. i thoroughly enjoyed the movie and even though i had no idea what it was going to be about or who any of the characters were, there was the inherent joss whendon comedy and smart-ass comments that made me feel right at home.

the film follows a group of mercenaries aboard the Serenity, a ship that is barely holding itself together. they do odd jobs to pay for repairs, pay themselves, and satisfy "the need to eat sometime this month". like i said before, the even though i didn't know the characters, i felt like i did. they were well developed and believable. when it comes to special effects, CG, and dog-fight directing, all i have to say is this: george lucas, talk to joss whedon. the epic space battle in Serenity is amazing.

the film hits emotional highs and lows of the characters, as well as the funnier side of what it is to be a human being. i've just gotta sit down and watch the series now to fully appreciate it.

AND now the "beer" part...

the other night i went out to a pub to meet up with some friends. i knew i wanted to go an dmade the effort to go, but when i got there i felt numb. i expected it would be the guys hanging out and making some noise, but i was wrong.

it got me thinking, was being "wrong" all that was making me feel numb? possibly. it's sort of like going to party and expecting to see someone there, but they don't turn up. you feel like you've wasted your time, and you just want to go home. but yo know, in the back of your mind, you might as well make the most of the situation - and more often than not there's someone around who knows what you're thinking and talks to you about it. and you're always greatful that they did. but you don't tell them that, they already seem to know.

then the following night was similar... the guys would be at the joint drinking, just not together. and that's the kind of drinking that i really don't like. but i was wrong, but this time it turned out to be good. we we all just sitting around and getting wasted, beer after beer, shot after shot. it was great. it was nostalgic in some ways too, but i won't get into that. i always seem to...

so what does SERENITY and BEER have to do with each other? well, let me try and articulate this coherently: it doesn't matter if you don't know what's going to happen, you just have to make the most of it.

I'm planning to watch it after exams, on my new WWWWWWIIIIIIIIDDDDDDDEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE screen HDTV. Saw one episode looked interesting, but never continued on tv???

Anyways EXAM sSUCK! IT SUCKS SWEATY NUT SAKS! Get it SakS? ARGHH hopefully next year will be my final year of uni. So sick of the atmosphere/people aren't you? Four years of uni is four years too many. Well no complaints from me really. This year was a lot more productive and fun than last. Actaully feels some what more active, prolli cos of the late night runs and near rapeages in the seedy dark parks.

Hey anything going on for the holidays? No clubbing this time around, alcohol + dickheads + hoes does not make for a good mix. Oh and no more beer for you EVER! Well maybe some free ones, but that's it. Hard liquor or nothing MONIN!

Also shall be spending more time looking for nifty resturants in the city, feel like joining? Need to scout good places to take Cat out.

Hey made anymore thoughts on ye car yet for the holidays? X5 still? Did I hear the petrol being guzzled down at a $1000 per litre? Just get a nifty LJ or you can leaving that to your sista I suppose. Argh fudge it just get a echo you pansy lol, nah jes kidding echo are manly :P

Screw car's I say let's get our motorbike license. I'll get a Ducati 999R and for you ummm a Ninja ZX-14 or even better a 1 speed Trike, either is good for me lol. :P

Just a little bored of doing revision.
Okay shutting up now.

yeah, they cancelled firefly in teh US and over here as well, so there's only one series. but i just watched the first ep last night and it's pretty damn good.

hmm i'm not that sick of uni (yet). i've got another 1.5 years to go so we'll see how i go. i just hate having to use my brain ALL OF THE TIME!

heh yeah, those "bag of money" runs are doing us some good and hopefully we'll still be doing em after exams and through summer.

no more thoughts on a summer project car, but i'm sure when the time comes and when i've actually got time i'll have a look around. but for now, the good ol' deisel guzzling X5 will suffice :D

man, if i could i'd run every echo off the road (well, only one that have that pansy sunflower hanging from their dashboard...)

motorbike..hmmm.

also, no plans over the holidays apart from work and maybe a bit of writing. plenty of chalkboard stuff to do, but my calendar looks pretty vacant.

might try piss off interstate for a tiny bit, who knows? bloody cheaper to fly now that petrol prices are the way they are.

though paintballing is still on the list, but we'll see.
