i remember my brother had told me what a bad-ass movie this was, followed by my younger sister's equally as eloquent description. so i went to see it, and boy, for once, they were both right.

harry lockhart (downey) is a down-in-his-luck crim who robs houses and stores for money. but when fate steps in, he goes from stealing xboxes to going to parties in LA. here he meets gay perry (kilmer), a detective whose job it is to make lockhart look the part. things start out pretty dry for both men but they both realise they're in deep shit once harmony faith lane (monoghan) comes into the picture. what ensues is a series of events both unexpected and equally hilarious.

i am not a huge fan of either downey jr. or kilmer, but they are both superb in their roles in this film. first-time director shane black (creator of "leathal weapon") does a spectacular job in story-telling and scene-setting. editing, pace, narration are all irrevent but seamlessly executed.

it's out on dvd, highly recommended.
